March Snow Can Add Up Quickly |
The DC Metro Area saw significant snow this week by local
standards, although the Nor’easter is bringing crippling snowfall farther
north. The storm brought a total of 1.7”
at National Airport, which not only exceeds the March average of 1.3”, but also
exceeds the total amount of snowfall during the previous 2016-2017 winter
(1.4”).
Snow records in the Nation’s Capital date back to 1887. In the 130 years since then, March has been the snowiest month 22 times. The last time this occurred was in 2013-2014. March 2017 is now poised to make the 2016-2017 winter number 23.
