Selected Storm Reports from Hurricane Isaias

Hurricane “Isaias” made landfall in North Carolina Monday night, August 3, as a Category 1 storm.  However, it weakened below hurricane intensity by the time its center reached the Mid-Atlantic Region.  Nevertheless, it had significant impacts in the DC Metro Area with heavy, flooding rainfall, damaging wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes.  The National Weather Service is still investigating some of the storm damage to determine just how many tornadoes occurred yesterday.  Here are some of the more significant rainfall totals.

Maryland

9” – Sotterley (St. Mary’s County)
8.42” – Prince Frederick (Calvert Co.)
5.77” – La Plata (Charles Co.)
5.75” – Cape St. Claire (Anne Arundel Co.)
5.41” – California (St. Mary’s County)
4.36” – Baltimore Inner Harbor
4.00” – Bethesda (Montgomery Co.)
2.55” – BWI-Marshall Airport
1.22” – Boonsboro (Washington Co.)





Virginia

3.90” – Spotsylvania Courthouse (Spotsylvania Co.)
3.10” – Chantilly (Fairfax Co.)
3.05” – Clifton (Prince William Co.)
2.77” – Dale City (Prince William Co.)
2.88” – Reagan National Airport
2.21” – Dulles International Airport
2.02” – Leesburg (Loudoun Co.)
1.30” – Middleburg (Loudoun Co.)

  1. Wow. What a soaker. Here in the Southwest we’re having the opposite problem...our annual monsoon season is disappointingly weak, putting us back in severe drought territory!
