Hurricane Season is Underway in the Atlantic Ocean

Hurricane Alex in January 2016  (Source: NOAA)

Although hurricane season runs six months from June 1 through November 30, there aren’t usually many named storms very early or late in the seasons since conditions tend not to be as favorable.  That said, the tropics have gotten off to a fairly active start thus far in 2016 in the Atlantic Ocean with two named storms developing prior to the official start of hurricane season.  Check out this story I wrote for the WUSA9 website to see where the third tropical storm of 2016 – “Colin” – may be developing.
