D. This was sort of a trick question. Two tropical storms last developed in the
Atlantic Ocean prior to June 1 in May 2012.
That was the first time it had happened since 1951. As many will recall, 1995 and 2005 were each
busier than average hurricane seasons in the Atlantic Ocean.
