March Snow in the Mid-Atlantic Region Source: NWS |
When is the latest date that the Nation’s Capital has observed at least an inch of snow?
A. March 5
B. March 19
C. April 12
D. April 28
Answer to Weather Quiz question from March 5.
B. Heat followed closely by wind is the most damaging to the cherry blossoms. High temperatures cause the blossoms to dry and wilt leaving them prone to windy weather. Gusty winds blow them away prematurely whether really warm or not. Cold weather early in the season would delay the peak bloom to later in the season. Meanwhile, below average temperatures while the cherry blossoms are in peak bloom would help preserve them a little longer absent windy conditions.
